| Registration Form Now Available for CVU Travel Program Camp August 10 – 13th! - Tuesday, June 30, 2009
We are now accepting registration forms for our 2009 Travel Program Camp that will be held Monday, August 10th – Thursday, August 13th. Your son or daughter must be a member of one of our 2009 – 2010 Travel Teams in order to participate.
Please register as early as possible with a small deposit of $25.00 (full camp fee is $90 for all four days and includes a camp T-shirt). Balance of camp fee can be made on the first day of camp (August 10th). Registration numbers will assist the club in determining how many coaches to hire and bring in for the camp as the registration fees cover the cost of the coaches hired.
The camp will be held at Peaks View Park on Fields 8 & 9. Boys will be in the morning from 9 AM – 12 Noon (3 hours) and the Girls will be in the evening from 5 – 8 PM (3 hours). This format has worked well in the past and keeps the players off the field during the hottest part of the day.
While this camp is not mandatory, it is very important for the development of your son/daughters team. Travel Teams will not be holding practices during this week. The Saturday after the camp (Saturday, August 15th), our teams will be competing in friendly matches in Roanoke vs. Roanoke Star.

| U13 Boys White Team Wins the Virginian Memorial Day Tournament! - Sunday, June 14, 2009The CVU (formerly Lynchburg United Soccer) U13 Boys White team travelled to northern Virginia over Memorial Day weekend to compete in the very competitive Virginian Soccer Tournament. The tournament featured over 600 teams at numerous sites located in the northern Virginia/Washington D.C. area.
The U13 Boys White team achieved something that most teams do not achieve along the way toward winning a tournament championship… Not only did the team win all 4 preliminary matches entering the championship match on Monday (Memorial Day), they won all 4 of those matches in shutouts, not allowing a single goal against them in those 4 matches.
Those individual preliminary match scores were:
LUS (now CVU) U13 Boys White 2 vs. Wyckoff Torpedoes (NJ) 0
LUS (now CVU) U13 Boys White 6 vs. Loudoun 95 White (VA) 0
LUS (now CVU) U13 Boys White 2 vs. SYC Hawks (VA) 0
LUS (now CVU) U13 Boys White 2 vs. Burke Strikers (VA) 0
The championship match on Monday (Memorial Day) featured an opponent from Maryland in the MSI Storm, winners of Group A. The Strom had advanced to the final on tie breaker points as they and the PWSI Courage 95 White team, were both undefeated and tied one another head to head.
The match was played in the bowl stadium on the campus of the Episcopal High School on field turf. It was played in extreme heat and humidity and started almost 2 hours late because of overtime and penalty kick finals in both games prior to theirs.
The LUS/CVU U13 Boys White team prevailed in the final by a 3 – 1 final score, thus allowing just one (1) goal over 5 tournament matches – an incredible feat in such a competitive tournament.

| Field Closure, Practice & Game Cancellations – How Does it all Work? – How Do I Know? - Sunday, March 15, 2009
Field Closure, Practice & Game Cancellations…
How Does it all Work? – How Do I Know?
As city fields officially open this week (on Monday, March 16, 2009), we want to provide all parents with the following important information regarding how fields are closed, who makes those field closure decisions and how you can find out when practices and/or games are cancelled…
1. All Lynchburg United practice fields are owned and operated by the city of Lynchburg, to which we (Lynchburg United Soccer Club) are considered a “partner” program. Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Department has decision making authority over all city fields (includes Peaks View Park and all city school fields). If they make a decision to close fields, they are closed and LUS teams are not to be on them at all.
2. The only fields that are not city owned and operated are those at the Lynchburg Regional Soccer Complex, which is owned and operated by Lynchburg United Soccer Club. The LUS Club Director makes field closure decisions for the LRSC. It’s important to note that we work very closely with Lynchburg Parks & Recreation, and we usually follow along the same decision making patterns as the city does.
3. Lynchburg Parks & Recreation usually does not make a decision regarding fields (open or closed) until 3 PM on weekdays. Once Lynchburg Parks & Recreation makes that decision, they will contact the LUS Club Director and notify him of that decision.
IMPORTANT CANCELLATION LINE PHONE NUMBERS
Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Cancellation Line.
That number is 434-455-5860.
Once into the system, press “1” on your touch-tone phone for “Athletics” for cancellations and/or updates. REMINDER – Wait until 3 PM to call.
Lynchburg United Soccer Club Cancellation Line.
That number is 434-846-6544.
When calling the LUS cancellation line you will hear a greeting with the latest cancellation information (with date and time of that posting). If there are no cancellations to report when you call, the message will indicate that no message means there are no cancellations to report at that current time. REMINDER – LUS can only report cancellation after we are informed by Lynchburg Parks & Recreation (which is usually not until 3 PM each weekday).
Game Day Field Closure’s & Cancellations:
If you call either of these cancellation lines on a Friday (if your child has a game on Saturday), it may or may not have cancellation notification posted if the fields are playable on Friday. There are times that rain/bad weather comes in overnight on a Friday or Saturday (for Sunday games), should that happen, it could change that field status. Fields will be inspected on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings if in question and then a decision will be made and placed on the LUS Cancellation Line. The city does not work on weekends and their message will likely not be up to date. Always check the LUS Cancellation Line and the LUS website before leaving for fields if we receive rain overnight (www.lynchburgunited.com) for the latest updates on field closures, and/or game cancellations.

| Coach Amy Dahlin Selected as the 2009 Travel (Competitive) Coach of the Year! - Thursday, March 05, 2009
Lynchburg United Soccer Club is proud to announce the selection of Coach Amy Dahlin as the 2009 Travel (Competitive) Coach of the Year for our Club.

Coach Amy Dahlin was selected for this prestigious honor and recognition from a pool of very impressive coaches within our club for many reasons… Coach Dahlin is currently the Head Coach of the U13 Girls White Travel Team. Last fall (2008) was her first season as the teams head coach after serving the previous two seasons as the team’s assistant. While serving as the teams assistant, the team finished in second place both seasons in their Skyline League Division. Under Coach Dahlin’s guidance and leadership, the girls flourished last fall winning their first division crown!
Additionally, the team competed in the prestigious Virginia Beach Columbus Day Tournament in October of 2008, one of the largest tournaments on the east coast. The team completed the tournament with a record of 3 Wins & 1 Draw. They ended up as Tournament Finalists based on tie breaker rules but Drew with the Beach FC Piranhas Elite team 2 – 2 in Group play, an awesome achievement.
Coach Dahlin led her team and players to the following additional achievements:
· Finalists in our club hosted Hughes-Dodge Region 2000 Cup in November 2008 in the combined U13/U14 Girls Division bowing in the final to the older U14 LUS Girls.
· 3 West District ODP Players and 1 Virginia State Pool player.
· Division Championship in January 2009 Virginia Tech Indoor Tournament over the Roanoke Star VCCL Girls team.
Professional Development:
· Coach Dahlin earned her USSF “D” License and is planning to take the NSCAA National Diploma.
· Recently named the E.C. Glass High School JV Girls Coach
Coach Amy Dahlin will be formally recognized by the Lynchburg United Board of Directors in April 2009 and she will be nominated by our club to the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) to be considered for the State Competitive Coach of the Year.
Congratulations Coach Dahlin… Keep up the Great work!

| Skyline League Reorganization & Restructuring to Bring a “Higher Level” of Play with Less Travel! - Thursday, January 22, 2009
Skyline League Reorganization & Restructuring to Bring a “Higher Level” of Play with Less Travel!
After several weeks of very productive and positive meetings, Central Virginia United Soccer Club is very pleased to announce the entry of Roanoke Star and New River United Soccer Association into the Skyline League.
With the entry of Roanoke Star and the New River United Soccer Association into the Skyline League, we now have created a group of 6, large major clubs in our region of the state to raise the level of competition to that never seen in western Virginia with play in the Skyline League.
As part of our collective agreement, it is the intention of the league to have a new “Premier” Division within the league to begin play in the fall of 2009 made up of the top Skyline League teams from each of the major 6 clubs (SOCA, Shenandoah Valley United, Augusta FC, Central Virginia United, Roanoke Star and New River United). There will also be classic level divisions to which our red and black teams would compete which will create the appropriate level of play for every team for proper development at all levels.
The league will also work to create what is called “block scheduling” for the 6 Clubs and respective teams that are within the Premier Division. The block scheduling format means that it would be club vs. club completely on match day. For example; if we were scheduled to play New River United at home, all of New River’s teams (in the premier division) would come to Lynchburg on match day and we would play their teams (team for team, age group for age group, gender for gender)… This would mean that if you have multiple children playing that are all on premier division teams, they would play at the same location!
Other additional competitive advantages of this new structure will be that we can set up “crossover” games between our best Premier level teams to play against SOCA and Roanoke Star VCCL teams. With this new restructuring of the Skyline League, we now do not have to play in the Virginia Soccer League and travel all the way to Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach for competitive matches…
As a result of this "new beginning" for the Skyline League and of the anticipated level of competition we should all expect by this, Lynchburg United Soccer Club can offer a higher level of play for our players without the need to drive 400 miles in one day to play a match…
All Central Virginia United Travel Teams will now be in the Skyline League beginning this spring and beyond... This represents Lynchburg United Soccer Club's Commitment to the new structure of the Skyline League as we move forward together!
Central Virginia United Soccer Club is committed to player development and would like to associate with other clubs with similar values. Our intention is to help make the Skyline League the best league possible in Virginia.
I believe our clubs parents and players all benefit greatly from this important milestone for the Skyline League and Central Virginia United Soccer Club!
