About the Academy Program
Questions & Answers about the New Academy Program
1. What is an “Academy Program”? – The Academy Program is designed to bridge the gap between regular recreation soccer and the travel program. The purpose in having players in an “Academy” program is the level of training the players will receive and the level of competition they will receive. Ultimately, after completing the Academy Program, the players will be much more technically proficient when they attend, and enter our Travel Program.
2. What makes the “Academy Program” different from the regular recreation program? – There are many differences between the regular recreation program and the “Academy Program”. A listing of the differences is listed below:
a. Players must attend tryouts and be selected for participation in
the “Academy Program”.
b. A higher level of commitment to development must be made by
the player and their parents(s).
c. Academy Teams will train two (2) days per week and they and
their parents must commit to that.
d. Academy Teams will play matches against other club Academy
teams in their age group during Academy festivals during the
course of the Fall 2009 & Spring 2010 Seasons. These festivals
will be held at a variety of locations as each club will host a
festival. At these “Academy Festivals” clubs that are anticipated
to participate are Central Virginia United, Roanoke Star, New
River United, SOCA and Shenandoah Valley United.
e. Parents/Players must be committed to attend all festivals as a
limited number of players will be selected for increased playing
time for appropriate development (11 – 12 Players Per Team).
f. Players/Teams will receive training from Travel Coaches, the
CVU Technical Director and the CVU Club Director.
3. Does the Academy Program Require Travel? – Yes, the Academy Program teams will need to travel to other festival locations when they are scheduled. Academy Festivals will be held on Saturday’s. All clubs participating in the Academy Program will usually host a Festival. Central Virginia United will host at least one Festival each season. Teams will play two (2) matches at each Festival.
4. With all of the Professional/Licensed Staff Conducting Training is there an increase in cost over regular “REC” soccer? Yes, there will be an increase in the cost of being in the Academy Program. The cost will be $190.00 per player, per season. Again, players must be committed for both the Fall 2009 & Spring 2010 to be placed on an Academy Team.
5. What is all included for the $190.00 per season fee for the Academy Program? The “Academy Program fees cover and include the following:
a. Each Academy Player will receive a uniform kit that includes (1)
game jersey, (1) pair of shorts, and (1) pair of socks. Any
additional items or replacement of initial uniform issue will be
the responsibility of the player’s parents.
b. The fee covers the cost of the trainers/coaches that are licensed.
c. The fee covers all referee costs for matches during “Academy
Festivals”.
6. How are the Academy Tryout Results Published, and what are my commitment deadlines if my son/daughter is selected?
· All players must attend tryouts to be considered for a CVU Academy Team. Although not required, attendance at both dated sessions for age appropriate group is strongly recommended.
· All participants must be properly registered.
· A $10 nonrefundable tryout fee is required at first session attended for each age group tryout.
· Participants must arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of their session for registration and tryout number assignment.
· Participants are required to wear FIFA approved shin protection. Each participant should bring enough hydration for activity in extreme weather conditions as well as their own soccer ball (well identified).
Upon completion of the tryout process, the player and parent/guardian will be provided with a letter that includes the player’s gender, age group, tryout number and vest/piney color. This information will be used to communicate the tryout results which will be posted on the CVU website www.centralvirginiaunited.com on the Announcement Date. Once posted on the Announcement Date, Parents/guardians of players selected to travel teams will have five (5) business days to deliver a signed Commitment Letter and nonrefundable deposit to the CVU Administrator in order to secure the player’s roster position. After 5 business days, the Club Director will make a reasonable effort to contact the parent/guardian of any player that has not met this requirement to inquire of their intentions. If the parent/guardian of the selected player chooses to decline, the Club Director will offer the player’s roster position to another player.
