CVU U18 Girls Elite Win 3 at the TFC Friendlies College Showcase in Fayetteville NC! - Sunday, January 24, 2010

CVU U18 Girls Elite Win 3 at the TFC Friendlies College Showcase in Fayetteville NC!

The CVU U18 Girls Elite team travelled to Fayetteville NC this past weekend to play in the Triangle Futbol Club “Friendlies” College Showcase.

On Saturday, January 23rd, the girls played host TFC White (ranked #19 in the state of North Carolina according to soccerincollege.com) and began the showcase with a 1 – 0 victory over the host squad.

Saturday afternoon the girls matched up vs. the LUYAA Man U side from Frederick Maryland (ranked #8 in the state of Maryland according to soccerincollege.com). The girls allowed one goal and were behind but came back in the match strong defeating the girls from Maryland 2 – 1.

An “All-Star” match was played on Saturday evening in front of a nice crowd under the lights. Ashlea Caylor and Katherine Frank played in the Junior All-Star tilt representing CVU in a very competitive and highly entertaining scrimmage with other All-Star players from other teams. Ashlea and Katherine’s teammates, parents and coaches attended the All-Star Game to provide support to their teammates!

Sunday morning the girls would finish up their showcase experience with a solid 4 – 0 convincing win over the FCCA Rowan side from North Carolina (ranked #23 in the state of North Carolina according to soccerincollege.com).

Several CVU players were identified by attending college coaches from institutions from NCAA Division II and III schools and NAIA schools.

The CVU U18 Elite team has just 5 Seniors this year, and look to elevate their game in the coming year. Many of these girls will go on to play at the next level.

Congratulations to Head Darien McClurg and his Assistant/GK Coach Miles Tranks on a job well done with this group of highly talented, motivated and intelligent young ladies. A very special thanks to Cathy Greene who has served as the teams’ manager for many, many years…

CVU is very proud of every one of the players!

Happy New Year 2010 - Thursday, December 31, 2009

Happy New Year from Central Virginia United Soccer Club!

Training for CVU U18 Elite teams & U12 - U14 YTS resumes this coming week (Monday, January 4, 2010) at E.C. Glass High School on the field turf (we're looking forward to getting training going again!).

2009 was a groundbreaking and record setting year for CVU...

Reaching New Goals... our competitive travel program won a total of 8 league championships in 2009... 3 in the spring and 5 in the fall (in the first full season of the newly established "premier" division structure of the "Big 6" clubs in the Skyline League). The 5 "premier" championships won by CVU in the fall was the most won by any club (tied with NRUSA) in the Skyline League! Proving that "player development" leads to team success"!

- Won numerous highly competitive travel tournaments at all level
s and age groups by both boys and girls teams, with the highlight being a tournament championship won by our U15 Elite Boys team at the CASL College Showcase in Raleigh North Carolina in December 2009 during the Men's College Cup weekend!

- It was a year that observed a record number of West District ODP Players (over 50) from CVU! This shows the enthusiasm and desire of our players to reach new goals as players...

- A year that had 6 of our players make their respective Virginia State ODP Pool(s), 3 players attend ODP Region I Camp (by invitation) with 1 selection to the USYSA Region I Pool!

- It was a year that we changed our club name from the long established "Lynchburg United Soccer (LUS)" to "Central Virginia United (CVU)" to recognize the "regionalization" of our club!

- It was a year of establishing our new Academy Program at the U9 & U10 age groups to develop players properly with a combination of professional licensed staff (travel level staff) and Academy Festivals to generate the needed competitive spirit and challenge needed for these young players seeking the appropriate transition to the next level from recreational program, into the travel program.

- It was a year that observed continued improvement in our recreational program which has produced the bulk of our players in both our academy and travel programs.

We will continue to "raise the bar" in 2010...

- In 2010 we will see (for the first time in the month of January) our U18 Elite teams compete in college showcases to "showcase" our players in front of coaches from various colleges and universities in attendance.

- CVU will establish new licensure requirements for our competitive and academy program coaches and will cease to use coaches in a role where their children are on a team. These are huge steps for our club!

- CVU will host VYSA State Coaching Education Courses in 2010 (the USSF "E" in January and USSF "D" in April).

                          ARE YOU WITH CVU?
                        COME JOIN US IN 2010!

                                              CVU U15 Boys Elite
2009 CASL College Showcase Premier Adipure Champions

The Central Virginia United (CVU) U15 Boys Elite team travelled to the Raleigh, North Carolina area this weekend to compete in one of the most prestigious soccer tournaments in the country, the CASL Men’s College Showcase, which coincided with the NCAA Men’s College Cup in Cary North Carolina.

The CVU U15 Boys were placed in the U15 Boys Premier Adipure Division. The team played three preliminary round matches, two on Saturday, December 12th, and one on Sunday, December 13th…

The boys only allowed one (1) goal over the three preliminary matches and won two of the matches in FIFA penalty kicks. In the Championship match against a team from the host club CASL, who was also unbeaten in the tournament, our CVU Boys defeated the CASL team by a 1 – 0 final score. In four matches, the team had three (3) shutout wins and allowed just one (1) goal! An absolutely awesome tournament in cold, rainy weather with very poor field conditions due to the weather.

The U15 Boys Elite team is proud of this accomplishment, and for representing their club… CVU – Please be sure to congratulate these players the next time you see them!

The CVU U16 Girls White Team Won the Kroger Cup Championship on Columbus Day Weekend… The team completed a terrific tournament in Roanoke by winning the U15/U16 Girls Division Championship
.

CVU U16 Girls White Team : 2009 Kroger Cup Champions

Coach Armando Corrales’ team played 4 matches in the two day tournament and did not lose a single match.

The girls were in a group of 4 for preliminary round play. On Saturday, October 10th the team would play Botetourt Star followed by the Old Dominion Soccer Club (ODSC) girls from Virginia Beach. The following were the results in those matches:

Botetourt Star 0 6 Central Virginia United

ODSC Pride 06 Central Virginia United

After earning two shut-out wins on Saturday, the girls were prepared to take on the tournament host, Roanoke Star Premier team on Sunday.

Roanoke Star Premier 1 1 Central Virginia United

The CVU Girls and Roanoke Star Girls ended up tied for points for the top of their group after preliminary round play, which resulted in the need to use the tournament tie breaker system to determine which of the two teams would advance to the championship match against the other group winner, the Salem Sabres.

Our CVU Girls did advance on the tournament tie breaker to play Salem in the Championship.

Championship Match

Salem Sabres 0 3 Central Virginia United

The CVU U16 Girls White team won that Championship match with another clean-sheet victory by a score of three to nil, proving they were deserving of that spot in the tournament final.

Congratulations to Coach Armando Corrales and all of his terrific girls on their spirit, hard work, dedication, and perseverance to achieve this result – Well Done!

CVU U16 Boys White Team Finalists in Kroger Cup Columbus Day Weekend! - Monday, October 12, 2009

The CVU U16 Boys White Team, which is off to an awesome fall 2009 season with a current league record of 4 – 0, competed in the 2009 Kroger Cup this past Columbus Day Weekend in Roanoke… The team was in a very competitive U16 Boys Division and completed a terrific tournament in Roanoke by advancing to, and competing very strongly with the eventual champion in a highly competitive Championship match and ended up
very proud Finalists!!!

CVU U16 Boys White Team : 2009 Kroger Cup Finalists

Coach Perry Mundy’s team would end up playing 4 matches in all, 2 preliminary group matches on Saturday, a Semi-Final and a Final match on Sunday in the two day tournament.

The boys were in a group of 3 for preliminary round play. On Saturday, October 10th the team would play the host Roanoke Star U16 Elite (VCCL) team, followed by the GSC Elite team out of Northern Virginia. The following were the results in those matches:

Roanoke Star Elite 1 1 Central Virginia United

GSC Elite 0 4 Central Virginia United

The team allowed just one goal in the two preliminary matches with a nice clean-sheet over GSC Elite. They would advance along with Roanoke Star Elite into the Semi-Final round opposing sides from the other group in the division.

The CVU U16 Boys White team drew the Roanoke U16 Premier team on Sunday in Semi-Final play:

Semi-Final

Roanoke Star Premier 0 5 Central Virginia United

The CVU U16 Boys would end up playing the only team that scored a single goal against them from Saturday, the Roanoke Star U16 Elite (VCCL) team for the Championship. Their earlier match ended in a draw...

Our CVU Boys played with tremendous pride in the Championship match. They would surrender one goal during the match and then appeared to tie the match until the referee assistant raised his flag indicating offside nullifying what appeared to be a good goal.

Championship Match

Roanoke Star Elite 1 0 Central Virginia United

The final result although disappointing to the team, does not diminish the end result of terrific team play, guts and determination by this group of young men. In the sport of soccer we live and die by the referees whistle at times, but that will not change the accomplishment of this team in this tournament. Hold your head up with pride boys – we are proud of you!

Congratulations to Coach Perry Mundy and all of his young men on their hard work to achieve this result – Well Done!

Semi-Final

FASA Future

The FASA team was able to find the back of the goal just one time while our CVU U12 Boys White team struck for 3 goals propelling them into the Championship match vs. the Richmond Kickers Central Chelsea team from the host club who advanced from their Semi-Final match, setting up a re-match of the two sides…

Championship Match

Richmond Kickers Central Chelsea
1 6 Central Virginia United

The Richmond Kickers boys were able to find the back of the net in this go around, but true to form on this weekend, our CVU U12 Boys found the back of the net 6 times in the Championship match! This score does not reflect how spirited of a match this was as the Richmond Kickers Boys came to play in a hard fought contest…

The U12 Boys White team completed the four matches with a terrific 4 – 0 record with 16 Goals For and just 2 Goals Against, a goal differential of 14 against quality opponents.

Congratulations to Coach Charlie Larson and all of his young players on their terrific tournament and passion for the game! – Well Done!

CVU U15 Boys Elite Team : 2009 Williamsburg Cup Finalist

This Super-Group was a Group of 6 Teams divided into two groups. Day one of the tournament was “group play” in which each team played the other two teams within their group.

In the first meeting between the two teams, either team could have won, and the same situation occurred in the thrilling championship match.

This time, Virginia Rush would break the weekend long scoring drought against CVU scoring two to CVU’s one.

Field Closure, Practice & Game Cancellations – How Does it all Work? – How Do I Know? - Sunday, March 15, 2009

Field Closure, Practice & Game Cancellations…
How Does it all Work? – How Do I Know?

As city fields officially open this week (on Monday, March 16, 2009), we want to provide all parents with the following important information regarding how fields are closed, who makes those field closure decisions and how you can find out when practices and/or games are cancelled…

1. All Lynchburg United practice fields are owned and operated by the city of Lynchburg, to which we (Lynchburg United Soccer Club) are considered a “partner” program. Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Department has decision making authority over all city fields (includes Peaks View Park and all city school fields). If they make a decision to close fields, they are closed and LUS teams are not to be on them at all.

2. The only fields that are not city owned and operated are those at the Lynchburg Regional Soccer Complex, which is owned and operated by Lynchburg United Soccer Club. The LUS Club Director makes field closure decisions for the LRSC. It’s important to note that we work very closely with Lynchburg Parks & Recreation, and we usually follow along the same decision making patterns as the city does.

3. Lynchburg Parks & Recreation usually does not make a decision regarding fields (open or closed) until 3 PM on weekdays. Once Lynchburg Parks & Recreation makes that decision, they will contact the LUS Club Director and notify him of that decision.

IMPORTANT CANCELLATION LINE PHONE NUMBERS

Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Cancellation Line.
That number is 434-455-5860
.

Once into the system, press “1” on your touch-tone phone for “Athletics” for cancellations and/or updates. REMINDER – Wait until 3 PM to call.

Lynchburg
United Soccer Club Cancellation Line.
That number is 434-846-6544
.

When calling the LUS cancellation line you will hear a greeting with the latest cancellation information (with date and time of that posting). If there are no cancellations to report when you call, the message will indicate that no message means there are no cancellations to report at that current time. REMINDER – LUS can only report cancellation after we are informed by Lynchburg Parks & Recreation (which is usually not until 3 PM each weekday).

Game Day Field Closure’s & Cancellations:

If you call either of these cancellation lines on a Friday (if your child has a game on Saturday), it may or may not have cancellation notification posted if the fields are playable on Friday. There are times that rain/bad weather comes in overnight on a Friday or Saturday (for Sunday games), should that happen, it could change that field status. Fields will be inspected on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings if in question and then a decision will be made and placed on the LUS Cancellation Line. The city does not work on weekends and their message will likely not be up to date. Always check the LUS Cancellation Line and the LUS website before leaving for fields if we receive rain overnight (www.lynchburgunited.com) for the latest updates on field closures, and/or game cancellations.
